Gold
In many mountain ranges of Kalistonia, most notably the Olympian mountains, gold is common. Gold has a somewhat soft texture, and can be made for decorating royalty, making coins, jewelry, and electronics. Gold is said to be the most useful mineral on earth, because you can use it for so many things. Gold is important to the Kalistonians, because we use it for the reasons listed above, and also as a sign of nobility. Many Kalistonians have gold jewelry such as rings, necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. Gold is also the most common mineral in Kalistonia.
IRON
Iron is another useful resource that can be mined in both the south and north islands. Iron is not as common as gold in Kalistonia, but we do use it for many things. We can use iron for buildings, bridges, skyscrapers, and other types of construction -- it would be hard to complete a lot of building projects if they did not include iron in their framework. The same can be said of automobiles, aircraft, ships, heavy carriers, and heavy machinery.
Wrought iron, for example, is used in outdoor items that can define the yard and the patio. There are iron fences, arbors, trellis, and a number of other uses.
COAL
Coal can be found at the southernmost tip of Kalistonia, furthest away from the equator. Coal’s primary use is to act as a fuel, to start and fuel fires. Coal comes in many varieties and sizes and is the most commonly mined ore in the world for its availability. Different types of coal have different uses. Steam coal - also known as thermal coal - is mainly used in power generation. Coking coal - also known as metallurgical coal - is mainly used in steel production.
DIAMONDS
Diamonds are one of the most valuable minerals that Kalistonia produces, and also coincidentally the rarest. Diamonds are mainly used in jewelry: rings, earrings, and necklaces, to name a few. More money is spent on diamonds than on all other gemstones combined, making them the most popular stones in the world. Diamonds are enjoyed in jewelry because of the way they disperse light. Gemstone-quality diamonds are further judged and priced based on their colour, clarity, cut and carat weight.
Lumber
Lumber, or wood, can be used for construction, paper, art, musical instruments, sports equipment, furniture and flooring and fuel. Wood is a very important resource, and most people opt for wood instead of metal for building. Lumber, like coal, can be used for fuel. In fact, when burning wood, you get a coal like substance which is called charcoal. Charcoal was once used for writing. The negative effect of harvesting lumber is that you are damaging the environment, and destroying animal habitats.
FISH
Fishing is a huge industry in Kalistonia, mostly because the country is an island surrounded by water. We can profit from this, selling fish to landlocked countries. Fish is a major source of protein and can be consumed in many ways.
LIVESTOCK
Livestock is another big export in Kalistonia. Livestock (sheep, lamb, cows and pigs) are usually grown for meat, or in the cow’s case, milk. There are a lot of sheep in Kalistonia, mainly because of the terrain. The terrain in Kalistonia is mostly flat, with mountainous regions in the south. This can explain why there are more sheep in the north where the ground is flatter.
